A formatting toolbar
disdroc has understood markdown for a long time: **bold**, *italic*, ||spoilers|| and so on. But you had to know the syntax. Now there is an Aa button next to the emoji button. Press it and a slim toolbar opens above the message box with headings, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, subscript, superscript, inline code, code blocks, spoilers, quotes, links and bulleted or numbered lists.
The toolbar does not hide what is going on. It writes ordinary markdown into the message box, so you can see exactly what will be sent and edit it by hand. Select some text and press a button to wrap it; press the same button again to unwrap it. The heading button cycles through three sizes and back to normal text. When you insert a code block, a small field lets you type the language, for example js or python.
Keyboard shortcuts work with or without the toolbar open: Ctrl+B bold, Ctrl+I italic, Ctrl+U underline, Ctrl+E inline code and Ctrl+Shift+X strikethrough (Cmd on a Mac). disdroc remembers whether you keep the toolbar open. On phones it scrolls sideways so it never takes more than one row.
The message box is now a multi-line field. Enter still sends; Shift+Enter starts a new line.
Headings, subscript and superscript
Three new pieces of syntax: a line starting with #, ## or ### becomes a heading, ~text~ becomes subscript and ^text^ becomes superscript. So H~2~O and x^2^ finally look right. Double tildes still mean strikethrough, and nothing inside code is touched.
Code blocks you can copy
Code blocks now have a small header with the language name and a copy button. It copies only the code, not the header, and briefly shows a check mark when it worked.
Noise suppression strength
The on-device noise suppression could only be on or off. Full strength is great for a loud fan, but it can make some voices sound flat. Now you can choose a level from 0 to 100% in Settings → Voice & Video, or from the voice effects panel during a call. It changes live, so you can adjust it while someone tells you how you sound. The default is 100%, which is exactly how it worked before.
Technically, the slider mixes your untouched microphone signal with the denoised one. It does not change the denoiser itself, and the processing still happens on your device.
Ask for Discover while creating a server
The create-server window now has a Make server public (show in Discover) switch. It sends the same request as the switch in server settings, so you still write a short description and the server only appears in Discover after review.
Where this came from
Most of this release came from looking at what people expect from a modern chat app and checking where disdroc was behind. Screen sharing quality, frame rate and system audio were already there; formatting and copyable code were not. If something you use every day elsewhere is missing here, tell me on r/disdrocapp or through Support.
